Therapy for LGBTQIA+ Folks In Pennsylvania
Affirming All of You
Living as an LGBTQ person comes with joys, complexities, and challenges that can deeply impact mental health. From navigating relationships and family dynamics to facing discrimination, rejection, or internalized stigma, many in the community carry unique burdens that deserve specialized support. Our therapists provide a space where every part of your identity is honored, and where healing is rooted in understanding, empowerment, and authenticity.
We know that LGBTQ individuals, particularly those who are Black, Indigenous, and people of color, often experience layered stressors at the intersection of race, culture, gender, and sexuality. These realities can increase the risk of anxiety, depression, or isolation, but with the right care, they do not have to define your future. At Melanated Women’s Health, our affirming team of compassionate clinicians walk alongside you to break cycles of harm, build resilience, and cultivate a life where you can thrive.
What is LGBTQ Therapy?
LGBTQ therapy is a form of counseling that not only addresses common mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship struggles but also focuses on the unique experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning individuals. Unlike general therapy, LGBTQ therapy provides a space where your identity is fully affirmed and understood.
This means your therapist is knowledgeable about issues such as coming out, navigating family rejection, minority stress, trans healthcare, and the impact of discrimination. It’s not about labeling you—it’s about giving you a safe, supportive place to process challenges, celebrate who you are, and build strategies for resilience. At Melanated Women’s Health, our team of affirming clinicians ensures you never have to explain or defend your identity—your therapy starts from a place of acceptance.
LGBTQ Therapy can be beneficial to:

Individuals exploring their gender or sexual identity – providing guidance and support during the process of self-discovery.

People navigating discrimination or stigma – helping cope with societal pressures or micro-aggressions.

Transgender and non-binary individuals – offering affirming care during gender exploration, transitioning, or dealing with dysphoria.

LGBTQIA+ youth – creating a safe space for young people to express themselves and build resilience.

We Accept Some Insurance:
The practice is in-network with some plans from Aetna, Meritain, Highmark, Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Anthem, and Federal Employee Program.
If you are unsure if we are an in-network provider for your plan, feel free to contact us for more information. We offer the courtesy of assisting all potential clients with mental health benefits verification for insurances that we accept. This is because we understand how difficult it is to find a therapist who accepts insurance, and figure out the cost of therapy using insurance benefits on your specific plan.
We also recommend that you check with your health insurance provider to confirm if we are in-network with your insurance and to verify the mental health benefits on your specific insurance plan.
For insurance plans that we are not in network with, we can offer you a Superbill at the end of an appointment for you to submit for any out of network benefits you may have.
