Workplace discrimination ain’t no joke, especially when the “Problem” Woman Colour (WOC) in the Workplace dynamics is taken into consideration. It’s a serious issue that can have a major impact on our careers and our mental health when there is heightened surveillance of the WOC’s work and interpersonal relationships, repeated comments about her body and physical presentation, expectation of her addressing internal race dynamics.

But you know what? We’re not gonna let it hold us back.
Whether it’s racism, sexism, ageism, or any other form of discrimination, we’ve got to speak up and demand change.
We can’t just sit back and let it slide. So, what can we do?
Document Everything
Keep a record of any discriminatory incidents, including dates, times, and names of witnesses. This documentation can be crucial if you decide to take legal action.
Talk to HR
If you feel comfortable, report the incident to your HR department. They’re there to protect your rights, and they may be able to take steps to address the situation.
Find a Mentor
A mentor can provide guidance, support, and advice on how to navigate a discriminatory workplace. They can also help you develop your career and build your network.
Network with Other Professional Women of Color
Connect with other women of color who have faced similar experiences. Sharing stories and support can be empowering, and it can help you feel less alone.
Know Your Rights
Educate yourself about your rights under the law. This knowledge can give you the confidence to stand up for yourself and demand that your rights are respected.
Take Action
Don’t be afraid to take action.
Whether it’s filing a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or speaking out about your experiences on social media, your voice can make a difference.
Remember, you’re not alone.
There are millions of women of color who are facing discrimination in the workplace. But by speaking up and standing together, we can create a more equitable and inclusive environment for all.
